Facts that Matter

6-Suta (Jumbo grade)

Makhana comes in grades — just like coffee and rice. Most brands never mention what grade you are eating. We print the exact grade on every pack, every batch. Always.

One Ingredient

Makhana. That is the complete ingredient list. No refined oil. No seasoning. No maltodextrin. No flavour enhancers. Turn any other pack around and compare the ingredients yourself.

Direct from Source

We source directly from one farming family in Mithila, Bihar. No brokers. No commodity traders. No hidden middlemen in between. Every pack carries the farmer’s name on the sourcing card inside.

What we Sell

One product. No compromises.

Whether you choose a snack pack, a kitchen pack, a storage pack, or a bulk pack, you're getting the same premium-grade makhana from the same farmers and the same harvest batch.Only the quantity changes. Never the quality.

Both packs include a sourcing certificate — farmer name, village, harvest season, and batch number. No other makhana brand does this.

Where your makhana comes from

Sourced directly from the ponds of Mithila, Bihar.

The makhana industry in India is worth thousands of crores. Yet the farmers behind it are rarely mentioned in modern food branding.

Our makhana comes from family-run ponds in the Mithila region of Bihar, where cultivation has been practiced for generations. The harvest is still done by hand — from the ponds to the sorting process.

We source directly before the harvest season at a fixed price, without brokers or commodity traders in between.

Every batch is selected for size, texture, and consistency before it reaches your pack.

Why It Matters

The health benefit lives in the raw seed. Not in what's done to it.

01

Kaempferol — intact

Raw makhana contains kaempferol, a natural anti-inflammatory flavonoid. High-heat commercial roasting degrades it. In our raw packs, it's fully preserved.
02

Low glycaemic index

Makhana digests slowly, keeping blood sugar stable. This is why it has been a fasting food for centuries — sustained energy, no spike, no crash. Seasoning and oils change this profile.
03

2,000 years of use

Makhana appears in the Charaka Samhita — one of Ayurveda's foundational texts — as a Vrishya food. Rejuvenating. Strengthening. Cooling. Ayurveda was not describing a cheese-flavoured snack.
04

One ingredient. Full stop.

Makhana. That is the entire list. No refined palm oil. No maltodextrin. No flavour enhancer INS 627. The original food is the medicine. We just pack it properly.

What Buyers Say

From people who read ingredient labels.

"The sourcing card inside the pack was what got me. I've never had a food brand tell me the farmer's name before. The makhana itself is noticeably better than what I was buying before — crunchier, bigger, cleaner taste."

Anjali R., Bengaluru

"I bought it for my mother who's diabetic. We compared the label with what we had in the kitchen — palm oil, maltodextrin, salt. This one just says makhana. That's it. She eats a handful every evening."

Prateek M., Pune

"Made kheer with the Kitchen Pack. The pieces held shape, didn't go mushy, and the taste was clean. The batch number on the card felt like buying coffee from a
single estate. Repeat order placed."

Sneha K., Mumbai

Understanding Your Makhana

What grade are you actually buying?

4-Suta

Smaller puffs, more breakage. Entry-level commodity grade.

5-Suta

Mid-size, consistent. Standard market grade.

7-Suta

Rarest grade. Reserved for our premium batch.

Most brands source mixed or unlabelled grades and don't disclose this. Every “AVYRA FOODS” pack states the grade on the front label. Always.

Founder's Note

The best traditional foods were already good. We just stopped treating them that way.

AVYRA was created to bring attention back to the quality of the makhana itself — the grade, the harvest, the sourcing, and the simplicity of the product. No unnecessary flavour systems. No shortcuts. Just thoughtfully sourced makhana from Bihar.
